Global Golf Post’s John Steinbreder took first-place honors in two categories to lead the way in the 31st Annual ING Media Awards program. Results in 13 categories were announced Wednesday at the PGA Show.

The International Network of Golf, a non-profit, media-based networking organization, conducts the awards program for its members. ING membership is open to anyone in the golf industry and media. Nearly four-dozen First-Place and Outstanding Achiever awards were announced at the presentation press conference. Media Awards’ sponsors this year were Bridgestone Golf, CertiFresh Cigar, PGA Show, Jaxson Maximus apparel company and Zero Friction Golf.

Steinbreder took top honors in the Business Writing Category with his article “Arizona Star,” and the Travel Writing Category for his personal story titled “Inner Peace On The Outer Banks.”

Gary Van Sickle and Gary D’Amato tied for the most individual awards, taking three Outstanding Achiever honors and one Category First-Place win each. Van Sickle’s first-place finish was in the Opinion/Editorial Category. His story in SI.Com titled “Masters Opening Ceremony A Reminder Of Our Mortality” was judged best in that category. D’Amato won the Equipment & Apparel Writing Category for his Wisconsin.Golf story titled “How I Gained 20 Yards In 5 Minutes.”

Sean Martin of PGATOUR.COM took home three awards, including a first-place finish in the Competition Writing Category for his story “Masters Win Highlights Staying Power.”  Ann Liguori also won three awards including top honors in the Book Author Category for “Life On The Green.”

Barry Cronin’s Chicago District Golfer was selected the winner in the Publications Category. Top Radio Show went to Charles Humphries’ Golf Shop Radio Network based in Charlotte, and the Podcast award went to Colin Weston’s ModGolf Podcast.

Other winners were Laurie White of WMGA in the TV/Internet Show Category, Cameron Morfit of PGATOUR.COM in the Profile Writing Category, Chuck Garbedian of Garbedian On Golf for Radio Segment and Paul Rogers of The Met Golfer in Feature Writing.

An independent panel of three judges in each category determines First-Place Winners and Outstanding Achievers.  Judges use a point system with several criteria. Scoring is done by judges when possible without knowledge of the person responsible for the work, or of the other judges in the category. The number of Outstanding Achievers in a category is determined by total entries and scoring range in the category.

A category chairperson is responsible for securing the three judges.
